As a group, we will create a list of “obstructions” or rules we must keep while writing a poem or lyric essay.

Do not be bashful. The more impressive or intensive or expressive of an obstruction, the better* the writing that will spring forth.

Who wants to go first?

  1. no colors or anything that alludes to colors
  2. all verbs must have movement
  3. no perhapsing or guessing — you just have to say the thing
  4. every fifth word you have to erase what you wrote and replace with it a new word
  5. no similes - no “like”s or “as”
  6. you have had an entire pot of coffee
  7. give something away — at least one thing

Write as if you are following the brush — you have these obstructions or rules to container the fire — but still the fire flits and flickers —
